Witch Bolt is a level 1 evocation spell. It allows spellcasters to hit enemies with a blue ray of electrifying energy that deals Lightning damage to them initially and also on subsequent turns.

Link yourself to a target with a bolt of lightning. Deal an additional 1d12Lightning each turn by activating it.

• The spellcaster can use an Action each turn to activate the arc linking it to this creature to automatically deal 1d12Lightning damage.

How to learn

Classes:

• Class level 1: Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard, and Draconic Bloodline (Blue/Lightning Ancestry)
• Class level 3: Arcane Trickster, and Eldritch Knight

Granted by features:

•  Magic Initiate: Sorcerer
•  Magic Initiate: Warlock
•  Magic Initiate: Wizard

Other ways to learn:

• Wizards can scribe a Scroll of Witch Bolt to their spellbooks.

Notes

• Witch Bolt cannot be used with  Metamagic: Twinned Spell.
• The incantation for Witch Bolt is Perurē, the Latin command "Burn/scorch!"
