Monstrosity

Monstrosities are a type of creature found within Baldur's Gate 3. They are unnatural creatures, more often than not considered to be the classical definition of a monster.

Characteristics edit

Monstrosities are typically grotesque or deformed creatures that have no natural counterpart. Some may be the by product of experiments while others are creatures that simply do not into other categories.

Types of monstrosities edit

Bulette edit

Bulettes are large, subterranean creatures that burrow through the ground looking for food. They hunt by sensing vibrations in the earth, and will leap out of the ground in order to attack the source of the vibration.

Doppelganger edit

Doppelgangers are monstrous humanoid-shaped creatures that have a special ability that lets them take the shape and mimic almost any humanoid creature. This makes them effective spies and assassins.

Drider edit

Drider are former drow that have been warped and disfigured from the waist down into that of a giant spider. They are typically made after failing a test of Lloth.

Ettercap edit

Ettercap are beast-like monstrosities that have a purple-ish skin tone and a bloated belly. Like spiders, they can shoot webs to trap prey.

Gremishka edit

Gremishka are cat-like creatures with the skin of a rat and ears like a bat. They are born from unstable magic, and can mimic the sound of a crying child to lure in magic-users in order to devour them.

Harpy edit

Harpies are humanoid creatures that resemble a female human but with large feathered wings. They are known for using singing to entrance and trap those who hear their captivating songs.

Hook Horror edit

Hook Horrors are large, bipedal creatures with two giant hooks for hands and a vulture-like beak. They are typically found in the Underworld and hunt their prey by pouncing on them from above.

Phase Spider edit

Phase spiders are related to normal giant spiders, however they have a different blue coloration and are able to phase between different planes of existence in order to surprise their prey.

Shadow Mastiff edit

Shadow mastiffs are dark, shadowy canines that typically live in the Shadowfell. They typically hunt prey from the shadows, and are clever enough to attack in packs, and even remove light sources.

Tressym edit

Tressym are small cat-like creatures with wings. They are often intelligent, and friendly, making them suitable as a familiar for Wizards.
