Cordrane the Recent is a duergar wizard who can be found attempting to sell necromantic charms in the Sorcerous Sundries in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate.

Involvement

Cordrane can be encountered in the necromancy area with Alice Althea, attempting to sell her some necromantic charms to summon a fresh, "completely safe" zombie to perform various menial chores. Upon approaching him the first time, he casts  Animate Dead: Zombie on a nearby corpse as a demonstration. He claims that the summoned Zombie also makes a low-cost bodyguard and is great at food disposal and cleaning.

Limit a foe's sight range. It is easier to hit, and the creature will miss more often. Attack rolls against it have Advantage and the foe attacks with Disadvantage.

Prevent the target from healing until your next turn. The target cannot help  Downed characters. An undead target receives Disadvantage on Attack rolls.

        • Cordrane the Recent: Now, now - you and I both know that being undead takes a toll on a corpse.

Alice Althea: So what can it do? I've a lot of domestic tasks that are quite frankly beneath me.

  • Cordrane the Recent: They're particularly good at cleaning - especially food disposal.
    • Cordrane the Recent: They'll happily eat anything you put in front of them.
      • Alice Althea: It is rather a pain to clean up after dinner parties...
        • Cordrane the Recent: Word of warning, mind: make sure you empty them frequently.
          • Cordrane the Recent: Otherwise you might have a gut explosion on your hands.
            • Cordrane the Recent: ...And everywhere else, really.
              • Alice Althea: Empty them? How? Oh. You know what - I'm not sure I want to know.

Cordrane the Recent: They also make excellent low-cost bodyguards - and you can't be too careful with the way things are going.

• Alice Althea: It looks a little fragile to me...
  • Cordrane the Recent: Nonsense! They're tougher than they look. Plus, even if they lose a limb, they keep on going.
    • Cordrane the Recent: I sold one to a wonderful old gent for property protection.
      • Cordrane the Recent: A trespasser chopped its arms off but it still chewed right through their ankles.
        • Cordrane the Recent: They won't be trespassing anywhere else in a hurry! Or walking at all, for that matter.
          • Alice Althea: I see...

Cordrane the Recent: One more thing: I recommend getting at least a couple of scrolls of Turn Undead just in case.
