Oath of the Crown is a subclass of Paladin, released as part of Patch 8 in 2025. [url 1]
Subclass features edit
This subclass obtains all the features from its base class, Paladin, in addition to its unique features outlined below.
Level 1
A paladin must follow their sworn oaths or lose their divine power. For more details, see Oaths and Oathbreaking.
- Oath of the Crown paladins abide by the following tenets:
Law. Uphold civilisation and order.
Loyalty. Your word is your bond; without loyalty, oaths and laws are meaningless.
Responsibility. Deal with the consequences of your actions, and fulfil your duties and obligations.

- Target yourself or an ally to additionally grant the target's proficiency bonus to their Attack rolls.
Level 3

- Challenge the enemies around you, compelling them to attack only you. Any attacks they might make against other targets have Disadvantage.

- Shout out and heal all nearby non-enemy creatures.

- You gain additional spells from your oath. They are Always Prepared.
Level 5

Level 7
- When an ally within 1.5 m / 5 ft of you takes damage, you can use your Reaction to magically substitute your own health for your ally's, healing them by 2 × (Paladin level)hit points at the cost of taking 2 × (Paladin level)Radiant damage yourself.
Level 9
- Oath Spells
- You gain additional spells from your oath. They are Always Prepared.
Oathbreaking actions edit
This section details known actions which cause Paladins to break their Oath of the Crown. Generally, they involve:
- Evading being arrested once caught or refusing to be interrogated
- Making promises and then failing to keep them
Act One edit
- Attacking Damays and Nymessa (tieflings who guard the caged Lae'zel)
- As the Dark Urge, severing Gale's hand while he is trapped in the rune circle
- Killing Quelenna, Taman and Gimblebock (with the paladin character)
- Shooting down the pillar over Gimblebock and Taman
- Deceiving the Blue Jay in the Emerald Grove and stealing its coin
- As the Dark Urge, breaking the Wounded Bird's wing in the Emerald Grove
- As the Dark Urge, breaking Pandirna's legs
- Letting Sazza get killed while imprisoned (in dialogue) OR helping her escape during
- Betraying the tieflings and siding with Minthara during
- Betraying Minthara after promising to help her during
- Letting Auntie Ethel go free when she offers her boon
- Torturing Liam in the Goblin Camp torture rack of the Shattered Sanctum
- Declining to help or leaving the conversation when Florrick asks for help finding Ulder Ravengard
- Killing the Zhentarim in the Zhentarim Basement after completing
- Betraying Sovereign Spaw during
- Stealing the Githyanki Egg instead of persuading its caretaker
- Killing the warrior Githyanki in the dagger fight
- Hiding Alfira's body after killing her as the Dark Urge
Act Two edit
- Answering "Ha! Ambitious - I like it." after persuading Mol to tell what Raphael really offered her
- Agreeing to help Z'rell kidnap Isobel
- Kidnapping Isobel after Jaheira already tasked the party with killing Ketheric Thorm
- Siding with Marcus
- Agreeing to Z'rell to deliver the Nightsong but not doing so - whether by killing or freeing her
- Betraying Balthazar
- Convincing Madeline to stab herself or calling her a coward
- Convincing Marls to jump off the docks
- Turning the mechanism in Dolly's Moonlantern
- At Moonrise Towers, mind controlling the goblins to kill themselves
- Encouraging Sumera and Jasin to wipe Minthara's mind
- Punishing Madeline through He Who Was
- As The Dark Urge, revealing the player character's depravity to the Strange Ox
- As The Dark Urge, speaking with Steelclaw and trying to remember what the player character did previously, which results in the Dark Urge killing Steelclaw
Act Three edit
- Selecting the Paladin Option and pledging a solumn oath to ally with Gortash during his coronation.
- Siding with Enver Gortash, then betraying him when speaking with Orin
- Siding with Orin, then betraying her when speaking with Gortash
- Promising to help Jaheira finding Minsc, then killing him
- Letting Arfur Gregorio go or accepting his bribe after finding out his secret
- Making a deal with the Hag or announcing said deal to Mayrina
- Becoming an Unholy Assassin at the Murder Tribunal
- Activating the collared workers' kill switch in the Steelwatch Foundry
- Betraying the Allandra Grey, the Wave Mistress
- Offering a body to the mindflayer in the bottom of the windmill
- Agreeing to help the Strange Ox, then entering the city without him
- Helping Astarion with the Rite of Profane Ascension
- Releasing the 7000 vampire spawn
