Haste

Haste is a level 3 transmutation spell. It allows spellcasters to allow their allies to become  Hastened.

Description

Target yourself or an ally to become  Hastened. The creature has a +2 bonus to  Armour Class, Advantage on Dexterity Saving throws, its Movement Speed is doubled, and can take one additional Action per turn.

When the condition ends, the creature becomes  Lethargic.

Casting this spell at a higher level grants no additional benefit.

• The affected creature acquires the following:
  • +2 to  Armour Class and Advantage on Dexterity Saving throws
  • An increase in Movement Speed of 9 m / 30 ft
  • An additional  Action
• When the condition ends, the affected creature becomes  Lethargic and is unable to move or take Actions for 1 turn.

• Consumed by exhaustion in the aftermath of  Haste.
• Can't move or take  Actions,  Bonus Actions, or  Reactions.

How to learn

Classes:

• Class level 5: Sorcerer, Wizard, Circle of the Land (Arctic or Grassland), and Warlock (via Pact of the Tome once per long rest)
• Class level 6: College of Lore (via Magical Secrets)
• Class level 9: Oath of Vengeance
• Class level 10: Bard (via Magical Secrets)

Granted by items:

• Darkfire Shortbow ( Recharge: Long rest)

Other ways to learn:

• Wizards with  Level 3 Spell Slots can scribe a Scroll of Haste to their spellbooks.

Notes

• Casting another  Concentration spell while already concentrating on Haste immediately triggers the  Lethargic condition, causing the new spell to end immediately alongside the caster losing the spell slot used for it.
• Gontr Mael grants an altered version of the Haste spell: while it does not trigger  Lethargic when it ends, it only lasts for 5 turns instead of 10. Recharge: Long rest
• While the description of Haste states that it doubles the target's movement speed, it only adds 9 m / 30 ft to their total.
• The granted extra action is significantly stronger than the one granted by the tabletop version of the spell. That action can instead only be used to take the  Dash,  Disengage, or Use an Object actions, or to take a special version Attack action that can only be used for one weapon attack.
  • Honour mode largely returns the granted extra Action to tabletop functionality.
• The incantation for Haste is Provolo, Latin for "Fly forth" or "Rush out".
