Notes
- This condition can be removed from the player character and their companions with Scroll of Revivify, theScroll of True Resurrection or through Withers' services.
- Non-playable characters cannot be revived after dying.
- Normally, companions, temporary companions and playable characters can be revived. However, most cannot be if they have not been recruited first, or die as a result of certain plot-lines in the game. While not necessarily a comprehensive list, below are known scenarios where death is permanent with characters who are recruitable companions:
- Astarion is killed by the player character upon waking up to his attempt to feed on them.
- Gale's hand is chopped off by the player character as The Dark Urge at the Roadside Cliffs Ancient Rune Circle.[1]
- Halsin dies while attempting to Thaniel from the Shadow Curse.
- Jaheira is killed during the initial on Moonrise Towers or the subsequent battle with Ketheric Thorm atop the Towers.
- Karlach is killed as part of Wyll's , before or after being admitted to the party.
- Lae'zel is killed by Shadowheart in an evening cut-scene at camp after their argument over the Mysterious Artefact.
- Tricking Lae'zel into killing herself first when she reveals her intent to mercy kill the party.
- Minsc is killed during the fight in the .
- Minthara is killed while being before being admitted to the party campsite.
- Minthara is killed in the Shattered Sanctum or during the .
- Shadowheart is killed in the Shadowfell after a conflict with the party as part of her quest .
- Wyll is killed by Karlach or other party members during a cut-scene confrontation just prior to long-resting, after both have been recruited.
- Lae'zel, Halsin, Gale, or Minthara is killed by Orin while .
- Alfira, a temporary companion, is an exception to the above. Should she be recruited and perish at any point after being recruited, she cannot be revived.
- Losiir, a temporary companion, is also an exception to the above. After recruitment onboard the , even if surviving the battle with Commander Zhalk to , he dies upon crashing on the and cannot be revived.

Sources of Dead[edit | edit source]
- If a playable character or companion fails three Death Saving Throws after being they become dead.
- If a non-playable creature reaches zero hit points they become dead.

- ↑ While it is never explicitly stated in the game that Gale dies as a result of having his hand forcibly removed by the Dark Urge, he cannot be recruited if this happens and death from blood loss with complete removal of the hand is very likely in such an event without intervention.
