Find Familiar is a level 1 conjuration spell. This spell allows spellcasters to conjure a fey familiar that can aid them in combat or world exploration.

Notes

  • The raven is the only standard familiar given a specific name: "Quothe". This is a reference to Edgar Allen Poe's poem "The Raven", and probably also the raven Quoth who appears in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels (himself a reference to "The Raven").
  • All versions and variants of the Find Familiar spell are mutually exclusive; a character can only have one familiar summoned by any Find Familiar spell at a time, including special summons like Shovel and Scratch, the Raven Gloves spell Summon Quothe the Raven Summon Quothe the Raven, and the additional options granted to a Warlock Warlock with Pact of the Chain Pact of the Chain. Casting another version of the spell will dismiss any currently summoned familiar.
  • The Ranger Beast Master feature Summon Companion Summon Companion is separate to Find Familiar, and can be cast at the same time.
