Valiant Damage - Meph's Notes[edit source]
First and foremost, all of these results are from testing in Custom Difficulty with Honour Mode Ruleset. I use two mods, one being Cheater's Ring, the other being Damage Testing Dummies. Therefore, I recommend you test these results in a vanilla game, tho I have had others repeat the results in that form myself.
1) Valiant Damage is a form of DRS.
2) Not only is Valiant Damage a form of DRS, it is one of few forms (see Rat Bat, Smite) that can trigger other DRS such as Craterflesh and the Magic Club passive.
3) Valiant Damage is not limited to going off once per attack. It is actually limited by the number of bardic inspiration charges that the attacker has, and the number of targets hit. For example, if an 11 hunter / 1 bard hits four targets with combat inspiration on, they can use all three of their initial bardic inspiration as well as the inspiration granted by combat inspiration to use valiant damage on all four targets.
This same process can be done with Slashing Flourish, doing so would use 3 total bardic inspiration (1 for the flourish, 2 for each target hit)
4) Summarizing the above, Valiant Damage almost acts as another weapon hit, but as a reaction for most purposes. It does not carry basic riders (see Venomous Revenge) but does carry anything that would ride on DRS, doubling riders up if it triggers another DRS such as Craterflesh.
Important Notes:
Many of these things will not work if the target dies before all of the processes occur. I believe this to be because Valiant Damage is a reaction, and requires the target to be alive when it goes off, but I am uncertain as to the exact reason. To test using more than one Valiant Damage (or even Valiant Attack) on multiple targets with surplus Bardic Inspiration, I recommend doing so on high HP targets, or simply doing so with very few riders that way you aren't killing targets before the entire sequence occurs.
Using Valiant Damage on a Bard whom uses a flourish as part of the attack causes Valiant Damage to always use a 1d6, regardless of the casting Valour Bard's level.
