Little. Kitty. Dances. To another song. Same. Song. As you?
Chop, speaking to the player about Us

Involvement edit

Chop butchers humanoids to create Intellect Devourers. If spoken with the party can find out that something has been done to his mind to make him more subservient and obedient, at great cost to his intellect; he seems distinctly unhappy with the situation. If a party member asks him "Why don't I send you to join all these creatures you butchered?" he responds with: "Yes. Yes. Please." Despite his apparent desire for death, he fights against the party when attacked, possibly due to his apparent inability to ignore or contradict his instructions. When killed, he remarks with his dying breath that he is now "free at last".

The exact nature of his affliction is unknown; he is not directly controlled by a Mind Flayer Parasite, as he does not drop one upon his death.

Chop keeps Us Us locked in a cage, but can be convinced to give the key to the party.

  • [ILLITHID] Let it come with me. We sing the same song.
  • [PERSUASION] I'll take the creature with me. It won't disrupt the hivemind anymore. (DC 14)
  • [INTIMIDATION] Free the creature or I'll kill you and every one of your creations. (DC 18)

If a party member attempts to lockpick the cage in Chop's line of sight, he initiates a dialogue wherein the party can, again, attempt to convince Chop to give them the key. Alternatively, they can pickpocket the key from him or take the key from his corpse. Regardless of method, freeing Us result in receiving Summon Us.

If the party venture down in the Oubliette, Chop can be heard talking to himself through the walls.

Notes edit

  • In the Dark Elf book trilogy of the Forgotten Realms, the main characters also encounters a Mind Flayer colony. The Mind Flayers there keep a wide assortment of slaves under powerful psychic control and brainwashing; it is possible this is what has affected Chop.
