Illithid Persuasion

From bg3.wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Illithid Persuasion is a unique illithid power which allows Origin characters, as well as Minthara Minthara and Minsc Minsc, to impose their will onto others with the Brand of the Absolute through conversation. This ability is unlocked automatically.

Description

Impose your authority onto those with the Brand of the Absolute.

Properties

During certain conversations just before dialog choices come up, the Narrator states "As the symbol glows, power courses through you. 'Authority'." This means that a target character has the Brand of the Absolute and can be dominated mentally to submit to the interacting party member.

A DC 2 Wisdom check is usually required, though some interaction may require a higher DC. Despite the low check, having a 1 or having a negative can still result in a failure. The first through seventh times this power is used, a unique comment is made by the Narrator on each specific occasion. Once a character successfully exercises the persuasion power seven times, the dialogue option prompt for this power is changed to True Soul and most uses of it no longer require a check (though some options using the persuasion power may still require one). After this ability is used, the character cannot use it again until their next Recharge: Long rest.

How to learn

Other ways to learn:

  • Available to characters who have been tadpoled

Notes

  • In Early Access, the progression of the illithid powers worked differently. Instead, the player character's tadpole grew in power by using Illithid Persuasion options in dialogue. Once the player character had used Illithid Persuasion three times, they got a power unique to their Class. Some of these abilities were reworked into the current Illithid Powers.
  • Normally, this power is automatically granted to all tadpoled companions. However, if a companion is convinced to use tadpole powers, and is not in the active party while being convinced, a bug prevents the ability from being granted. However, not having this ability does not affect a tadpoled character's ability to use Illtihid Persuasion in dialogue.

Text lines after using Ilithid Persuasion

  • 1st use: "A shiver runs across your mind... You feel sated." (This line is normally only usually used after saving Shadowheart Shadowheart on the Nautiloid in the Prologue).
  • 2nd use: "Something stirs deep within you, hungry and alert... It's taking something you'll never get back."
  • 3rd use: "Your mind lurches, reeling suddenly as if... bitten."
  • 4th use: "A shadow swims across your vision, and a familiar voice tells you to be calm. You are loved."
  • 5th use: "Your blood runs quicker, feeding the gnawing absence at the centre of your mind."
  • 6th use: "The presence deep in your mind is awake, unblinking. This is it. A single word pervades your consciousness: 'Soon'."
  • 7th use: "Your mind is full, bursting with ecstasy and terror. Finally, it is coming. You are becoming."
