How to learn

Classes: Races:

(Character level is the sum of all class levels for a multi-classed character.)

Granted by features:

Other ways to learn:

  • There are no scrolls available for wizards to scribe to their spellbooks.

Notes

  • The damage is considered non-magical so creatures resistant to non-magical piercing damage take only half damage.
  • The corpse cannot be an ooze, plant, construct, or elemental. Any other creature type works.
  • The corpse must be "fresh". This is the same criteria as for Speak with Dead Speak with Dead. If killed where the final form of damage is by FireFire, RadiantRadiant, or AcidAcid, the corpse is unusable with Speak with Dead and also this cantrip.
  • After using this spell, the target corpse is reduced to a pile of viscera which cannot be reused for this spell nor reanimated with spells like Animate Dead Animate Dead.
  • With the Death Domain Cleric feature, Reaper Reaper, this cantrip can be twin cast on two separate corpses at once. If the area of effects overlap, creatures in the overlap take damage from both explosions. It is one of the only area of effect spells that can be twin cast.
  • This cantrip cannot be twin cast by Sorcerers using Metamagic: Twinned Spell Metamagic: Twinned Spell.
